Interregnum at St.Mary's and St.Luke's

The way forward

We have to announce that neither of the two applicants interviewed on 15 October was appointed by the 4-person Interview board. Please be assured that we would like nothing better than to fill our vacant incumbency, but he/she must be right for Chiddingstone. We will be discussing the situation, the apparent market conditions and the various options at the forthcoming PCC meeting and with the Diocese.

In the meantime, our regular services continue, as shown on the Twitter feed on this website. During the interregnum, we have greatly appreciated everyone`s support and please continue to attend our services and those in the new format after Christmas.

Please note that the Centenary Remembrance Service at St Mary`s on Sunday 11th November will start at 10.45am (not 10.50am as previously advised). This promises to be a very special and poignant service commemorating all those from our two parishes who were killed in the First World War, including three additional names discovered during research by Marilyn Mullender

The stories of each of the fallen, researched by Years 5 and 6 schoolchildren, will be shown in a display at the back of each church and can be viewed from 1st -30th November. Two beautiful Remembrance altar frontals have been produced by a group of ladies and, again, will be on display in both churches.

The service will also include a blessing of the crucifix brought back from a ruined battlefield church and recently given to the church and erected in St Mary’s chapel.

More information is provided within Ian Coleman’s article in the November 2018 village magazine entitled ‘There but not there’.

Family Services and Children’s Church

A further meeting was held with a group of young Mums, the school and Sally Musson to agree the format of the new 4pm Family Service to be held on the first Sunday of the month commencing in January. This will be a shorter and child-friendly with service details, hymns etc on screen rather than on service sheets. We also look forward to tea afterwards and an opportunity to chat and gain feedback.

The Children`s Church (previous Sunday School) will commence on the 3rd Sunday in January (a shorter Family Eucharist) with the children returning for communion.
